Fluid Dynamics (7 levels) 2026
video, 6 mins.
Fluid Dynamics (7 levels) recontextualises two heavy machinery articulated arms, and places them within a dance of collaborative movements. Centred around a piece of delicate lace, the machines, originally designed for construction or demolition labour, work together to stretch, twist, pick up and unravel themselves from the lace. These contrasted binaries are presented within a structured narrative with parts missing, implying a logic within grasp. By absurdly recontextualising these rigidly gendered materials and the expectation of productive output, Stevens presents a queered overturn of normative roles and hierarchies.Â
