Ruby Stevens (they/she) is an artist living and working in Meanjin, Brisbane.
Her concept-led practice examines social constructions of value, care processes and their complex connections to gendered labour. Through a feminist, queer and neurodiverse lens, using domestic, low-value, and discarded materials, their work is often realised as kinetic sculpture, as well as photographic and video work. Using second-hand materials and readymade objects alongside irony, exaggeration, and juxtaposed gender binaries, Ruby’s work invites a consideration of subconscious social hierarchies.
